"Reflections on Blue"
The key to good landscape photography is to watch the weather.
In many cases, low visibility is a detriment to good photographs — in such conditions, grand landscapes are impossible to see! For other scenes, though, a neutral background can be perfect for isolating specific elements of a landscape. In this image of Iceland's Jökulsárlón lagoon, the distant fog makes a clean backdrop for these masses of ice — a backdrop which is seldom-photographed.
I was attracted to this specific group of icebergs because of the skyscraper-esque form in the center of the composition, directly behind a block of ice that reminded me of a goose. With abstract shapes such as these, it is worthwhile to consider their similarities to objects in the real world. These similarities were the reason I noticed the scene in the first place — and also what I hope viewers see in this image.
