Emerging from the side of a cliff, this waterfall sits halfway through the Fimmvörðuháls river hike in South Iceland.
Sometimes, the best type of photo is one which causes the viewer to pause and question the reality of the image. There are more dramatic waterfalls in Iceland than this one, to be sure, but few which are as unusual as this.
The lichen, too, adds an element of color to such a surreal scene, making it appear even more otherworldly. And yet, this waterfall is truly beautiful — one of the most intricate I have ever seen. Such a view makes the entire hike a success, despite the massive bag of camera equipment that I carried!
I can only imagine photographing this falls from inside the cave.
