With drone photography, it helps to frame your shots in a way that conveys a sense of scale. This can be through natural elements of your composition — animals, trees, rivers — or through man-made elements. A road is one of the best subjects to photograph with a drone, especially one with personality.
This dusty, perfectly-straight road to the horizon serves as both a sense of a scale and a compositional anchor. Taken at Stokksnes in Iceland, this sunrise image remains one of my favorite drone photos because it is so unique.
From the ground, such an image is all but impossible; the road engulfs too much of the composition. Shot from a drone, though this road is a perfect subject — beautiful, rugged, and timeless, much like Iceland itself.
