Iceland should be world-famous for its lighting.
Sure, some days are completely overcast; others are pouring, or the wind makes it impossible to go outside in the first place.
But then there are some displays of light — some cloud formations, some tones in the sky — that are otherworldly.
At about 2:30 AM, hiking on the surface of a glacier, I was at the same altitude as the clouds. Below, it was still night-time, dark and blue; above the clouds, the pink light of dawn was just beginning to emerge. I framed the image with faint footsteps along the bottom to show that this alien landscape is real, and I have been here.
